点评：Ganapati is one of the most worshipped deities in India. Maharashtra state is famous for Ashtavinayaka temples that are special and sacred. These eight temples are located in different places of Maharashtra and all of them are considered Swayambhu which means self originated. Typically people follow this Ashtavinayaka Yatra in sequence in which Ranjangaon Vinayak is eighth one.
Legend has it that once Lord Shiva had to bottle a powerful demon Tripurasura whom he could not vanquish easily, so Lord Shiva took help of Ganesha to defeat Tripurasura. It is believed that this temple was built as the spot where Lord Shiva defeated Tripurasura. Due to the same this Ganesh is also called as Tripurarivade Mahaganapathi.
Interesting facts about Ranjangaon Mahaganapathi:
1. This temple was built by Sardar Kibe during 9 -10th Century. Same is renovated by Madhavrao I during 18th Century. He constructed a beautiful entrance gate with Jay and Vijay flanking the sides.
2. This temple construction is so unique that the Sun rays fall directly on Lord Ganesha Idol during Dakshinayan.
3. Ranjangaon Ganapati idol was gifted by Kollam family and is east facing, his trunk is turned leftwards and depicted as seated on a lotus, surrounded by his wives Siddhi and Riddhi.
4. The Villagers of Ranjangaon do not bring the Ganesha idols into their homes during Ganesh Chaturthi instead, they visit the temple and offer their prayers.
5. Devotees believe that there is another idol below the present idol in underground chamber. The idol is called as Mahotkat, which has 10 trunks and 20 arms. But authentication for the same is not available.
