点评：What was supposed to be a brief visit by my sister and me to our paternal grandfather’s village, Papin, in northeastern Slovakia turned out to be an unforgettable week of family discovery and historical touring under the expert guidance of Michal Razus. In Papin, we not only explored the village but through Michal’s inquiries we were able to connect with distant relatives. We were very touched by the reception our Slovak relatives extended to my sister and me and were impressed with Michal’s ability to find them and negotiate introductions. After Papin, we then extended our trip to Velka Frankova, our maternal grandfather’s village, and again connected with distant relatives, all aided by Michal’s language abilities and engaging personality. Apart from our genealogical research, we explored UNESCO sights, like the medieval towns of Levoca and Bardejov, wooden churches, Kosice and Presov, the Tatra mountains, and much more with Michal. He suggested hotels, restaurants, and other sites which were excellent. I cannot praise Michal enough. He is professional, well-organized, accommodating, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable about history, culture, and politics. He is a gentleman and a scholar, a true Renaissance man. Because of our trip, I am pleased to call him my friend and hope to return to Slovakia and travel with Michal again.
