The Best Bird of Prey Centre in the Country

点评：We decided to visit the York Bird of Prey Centre whilst on holiday as a family of five, as a couple of us had an interest in birds of prey. After reading the reviews on trip advisor it seemed that this place was worth a visit. Upon arrival we weren’t too sure about it as the centre is looking tired (we have since found out that they are decommissioning the site in preparation to move into a new location) but upon walking through the door we were met with a friendly face and a team with a passion for birds of prey. The entry cost is absolutely fantastic and in all honesty too little for the attraction (we have left a donation in honour of this).
The centre has around 90 birds of prey that are all well looked after and flown daily. We were introduced to a volunteer named Ian who was very experienced in the field and had a passion for the birds in his care. Ian absolutely made our visit. He was so approachable and made us feel at home and comfortable with our experience. We had the chance to hold a number of birds and were given detailed information about each one. We were not rushed or felt pressured to move on, we could’ve stayed all day if we wanted to (we did stay four hours!). We were then invited to watch a flying display which was highly impressive and entertaining. We were given the opportunity to fly the birds, and then the grand finale - a golden eagle was brought out to hold. What a magnificent, once in a lifetime opportunity to be at one with this amazing bird.
I absolutely recommend visiting the York Bird of Prey Centre. It is a genuine, family run, friendly attraction tucked away on the outskirts of York. At most falconry or bird of prey centres around the country, you would expect to pay in excess of £100 per person for what we experienced here for a fraction of the cost.
