点评：I visited with my partner this year during the first weekend of the Robin Hood Festival as I wished to relive my childhood. I used to go to this festival as a child with my grandparents and older brother from 2006 to possibly 2013 or so, we would have travelled from Northern Ireland and camped at the local campsite. It absolutely broke my heart seeing the festival wasn’t anything close to what I experienced in the past. Sherwood itself was barely maintained and appeared very sad, understandably the major oak has passed but even the surrounding area of it was a mess. The visitor centre is an eyesore from what once existed, its very mordern for the history of the area and is incredibly overpriced. The festival itself is lacking the magic, very little going on as you walk around, not as much entertainment no real connection with the outlaws and sheriff, not as much history or story telling as there used to be. The archery is scaled back to a sad 5 targets, as a kid we used to have knights and a castle and a bell to aim for creating fantastic competition amongst everyone. My favourite memory was hunting the outlaws, chasing them through the forest to catch their stamp to bring back to the sheriff and having an exciting time. None of this seems to exist now, I can only assume funding has been cut or nobody seems to care anymore. But, it is so incredibly sad to see, something has died here. It’s truly such a shame.
