点评:It helps not to have too many expectations and all I knew about this one was that it’s a small RHS garden out towards Bury St Edmunds.
It is relatively small, but beautifully put together around the River Lark that runs through it, and still covers 7 acres. Formerly the project of Bernard Tickner, the founder who spent over 50 years designing and creating the garden, it certainly feels like someone’s private gardens for their main residence.
There’s four distinct areas set around the main mill building with two on either side of the river. The planting scheme is done to provide interest at any time of year and although August may not be the best time there was still plenty to see, especially the autumn crocus’s which were particularly impressive.
I thought it was well worth the £10 entrance fee and it’s worth mentioning that although no dogs are allowed inside the garden, there are plenty of paths and walks through the surrounding woods for another family member to take them on whilst you, and the rest of us, enjoy these small gardens dog free.
