Good Small Museum of a Local Railway. Nostalgic in a Real Way.
Sydney & Louisburg Railway Museum的点评
点评：It's easy forget today how many short-line railroads that have existed in the past. One reminder is the popular Monopoly games, which have railroads that have long since been combined into larger entities.
The Sydney and Lousibourg railroad was one such railroad, running from the late 1800s until the later 1900s. It was built to transport coal during the winter from the ice-bound Sydney harbor to Louisbourg. When the railroad shut down, a group of former employees preserved these buildings and much memorabilia for us to enjoy.
If I recall correctly, admission here is free although they do request a reasonable donation (which we made). There are the original train station and quarters and the roundhouse. The tour guides there were young, but very much engaged and interested. They took us into the adjacent building with a former passenger car, some models, and other railroad artifacts.
Some of the displays relate to a nasty train accident in which a train went over a rotary bridge before it was done rotating, plunging the train into the water. We also liked the accounts of sensitivity to the community and the importance of the railway to maintaining their sense of unity.
One of our favorites was the mechanical telephone switchboard, which was in use far later than you might think.
