点评:We visited Nusa Penida at the end of a 6 week tour of Indonesia and Australia.
Our accommodation was fantastic rustic, beachy, clean and relatively good value.
However, if you are looking for an idyllic beach get away I’m afraid you will be disappointed.
Evening walks along the beach involve dodging plastic and rubbish brought in by the tide or washed into the sea by locals living along the shore who have no way to dispose of their daily rubbish. It is everywhere!
You can only walk from location to location along the seafront where the coastline permits as walking along the only real road on the island involves taking your life into your own hands, jumping out of the way of scooters and taxi drivers who are also fighting for their position on the road.
The government has to address the levels of tourism, infrastructure and rubbish management if this island is going to survive into the 21st century as tourists will just stop coming.
As a tourist, please avoid using single use plastics as much as possible and take it off the island with you to Bali where waste management appears to be better.
