It would be just as beautiful without the pagoda, which is sort of an afterthought

点评：I can't believe I am going to do this but I have to be honest: the Peace Temple was totally and utterly boring! There are better stupas all over Nepal and this one was fussy. But the view was absolutely sublime and worth about a thousand stars for the extraordinary view. I took a boat at just past dawn and then walked alone up here, it took maybe an hour although it was an incredible jungle hike that was, I thought, very challenging. I enjoyed the small and humble cafes around the Peace Temple a great deal and had coffee and cinnamon rolls. The insane views of the Himalayas at dawn that were mind-bending. In January, it is all filled with huge poinsettias. Actually the Peace Temple has very nice flowers all around it.
So go for the hike and the ambiance. The Temple itself was just like five minutes, walk around, there are a few illustrations of Buddha's life and then done. But then you go back to that sublime view and can't believe what you are seeing.
Actually a nicer pagoda is down below in the Tibetan area near a school where there are kids playing soccer, although it's about a two hour hike, I really enjoyed that. I can't recall the name but it was a Tibetan district, specifically. Good momos down there! And near a beautiful Hindu temple.
The hillside all around has cool little villages, by the way. I wound up hiking for hours. I won't lie, I was completely lost. All of the signs were in Nepalese and I didn't see any other tourists in January, but there were local people and they were extremely nice and helped this poor middle-aged lady figure out where to go in the end.
