点评：Mount Sumbing (3,371 m) is the second-highest mountain in Central Java. I went to Mt.Sindoro via the Garung route on Aug 2023. it offers you a good view of Mt.Sindoro, Savanna, beautiful sunset at base camp, and sunrise at the summit.
You can do solo trekking without a guide but still required a register at the base camp, the entrance fee is 30.000 IDR, and 10.000 IDR for motorbike parking fee. If you want a guide for your group you can request one from the base camp manager a day before you start, the price is 850.000 IDR and the guide can help you to carry your stuff
You can stay overnight at the base camp, there’s a toilet, bathroom, parking area, and restaurant. I prefer to stay at my hotel in Yogyakarta and ride a motorbike to Sumbing base camp for about 2 hours in the morning. You can find trekking equipment such as a trekking pole, tent, gas, and water from the shop near the base camp.
At the base camp registration, the officer will check your essential items such as a tent, mattress, sleeping bag, gloves, and beanie. If something was missing you may not be allowed to climb a mountain. After checking our gear and briefing with the officer.
I took Ojek from the Entrance office to the starting point (25.000 IDR) which saves you 2-3 hours. I start trekking around 1030 am, there are many Indonesians on the way and the route is clear, you will not get lost. It's take 3.5 hours for me and I reached the POS3 (basecamp for the summit) at 0200 pm. There's a large camping area, shelters, and tea house there but I suggest you go to the next camping site (area to of POS3) it’s 15 mins walk to a higher point but offer a beautiful view and you can see a sunset from this point.
The summit attack starts at 0300 am, someone made a coffee or noodle before starting. On the way to the summit is very steep, you need 1 or 2 trekking poles to prevent slipping. The sunrise starts around 0600 am. At the top of the mountain, there are 3 summits and it takes around 1 hour to go to each (you’ll reach the middle)
At the summit, you can see the panoramic view of Savanna and other mountains such as Merapi and Sindoro. I spend time at the summit for around 15 mins and come back to my camp, finished breakfast, and walk down to the starting point, It takes 2.5-3 hours to climb down. when you reach the starting point, Ojek is waiting for you to go back with the same price (25.000 IDR) back to the base camp
**There is no phone signal on this route, but you can see the notifications at some point on the way.
**Bring back all your garbages to check at the entrance gate.
**There is no water source so I suggest you bring at least 3-4 Litr/per person, but you can buy some drinks at the tea house
