Wonderful rainforest experience - not to be missed
辛哈拉加森林保护区的点评
点评：I took a full day trip to the Sinharaja Forest reserve, with Cinnamon Bentota Beach hotel-based naturalist Thisara Kuruppu last weekend. This is not to be missed.
Thisara is a trained naturalist and really knows his stuff, especially the birds but also mammals, reptiles etc. His English is excellent and he was very good company on the drive.
It is a 2 hour drive in an airconditioned car (with a separate driver) to the reserve, along very good roads through pretty countryside and rice paddies and and gradually climbing past tea plantations.
The reserve entrance has good parking and clean toilets - and a few resident Blue Magpies, a species unique to Sri Lanka. This was a taste of things to come. We picked up one of the local villagers that is employed by the reserve to take people into it (included in the price, but who I tipped). He found us all sorts of interesting things (some photos below): flowers (eg orchids), MANY butterflies and other insects, trees and shrubs, lots of birds, several different lizard species, a snake, frogs, squirrels, monkeys. Many of these are species unique/endemic to Sri Lanka. Between the 2 guides I learned an awful lot.
The walking is easy going along very good paths - concrete at first (to all for vehicular access) then well-tended paths through the rainforest. Leech socks were provided along with water. I took a few cakes to eat as we were out in the reserve for a good 3 or 4 hours. The forest has a wonderful calm to it, it felt totally safe and I enjoyed the company.
I highly recommend this trip to anyone with an interest in the natural world.

徒步路线很轻松，沿着非常好的步道——一开始是水泥路（方便车辆通行），然后是维护良好的雨林小径。我们提供了防蛭袜和饮用水。因为我们在保护区里待了三四个小时，所以我带了一些蛋糕。森林里有一种奇妙的宁静，让人感觉非常安全，而且我很享受和他们在一起的时光。
我强烈推荐所有对自然世界感兴趣的人参加这次旅行。
