点评:During our road trip from North Carolina to New Hampshire, we stopped at the tank museum. Our twelve-year-old son, a World of Tanks enthusiast, was the primary reason for building the excursion into our trip, but my husband and I also enjoyed the museum very much. If you have someone in your household or traveling party who loves tanks or world military history (not just U.S history—the museum’s collection of tanks and memorabilia crosses centuries and continents), this museum is absolutely worth a detour.
The museum owners have taken great pains to catalog every artifact in the museum—and there are A LOT of artifacts. The effort is impressive, and they have extensive information posted at each exhibit in case museum goers want to dive deep (as in the case of my son and husband) or just take a quick peek for reference (as in the case of their female sidecar who didn’t appreciate the tanks quite as much as her traveling companions).
As far as the tanks, our son—the person in our family with actual knowledge of the subject matter—was spewing facts the entire time we were there. He had a wonderful time. He was most impressed by the Soviet T34 tank and the M1917. They also had a Panzer IV, a Swedish tank and an Iraqi T-72 tank that got rave reviews from him.
Oh, and as a bonus, there’s a helicopter in the hangar that allows visitors to climb up and see inside the cockpit.
Wonderful experience! We only wish we were going to be in the area for the next Flamethrower Day. It sounds incredible.
