点评:I completed my Solo hike of Bessegen Ridge during May 2025, When the hiking season hasn't yet started and the ferries are not operational.
During May, The mountain is largely snow covered and Bessvatnet lake is completely frozen over.
The route I took started at Gjendesheim, following a well marked Trail up to the Bessegen Ridge, then around Bessvatnet and back to Gjendesheim.
I'd say this was a medium difficulty hike, particularly for English hikers, who are for the most part more adept at hiking olin colder conditions than Norweigens, who had advised to wait until Summer to carry out the hike.
The route took me 6 hours in total, taking into account the slowdown caused by deep snow.
Whilst at the summit I bumped into two Norweigens (Pictured) who were wearing full thermal base layers, warm down jackets and waterproof coats, whilst struggling with the conditions.
I completed the hike in walking trousers, sturdy boots, a T-shirt and a light jacket as I don't like to overheat when walking.
All in all this was a very enjoyable hike with stunning views but I would advise those who feel the cold more profoundly to wait for the summer weather to arrive.
