Protection Island的点评
点评：Took the ferry across to walk around the island and have lunch at the pub after with my brother.
The day started fine, we got off the ferry and made our way around the island, taking pictures of the flowers, beaches and birds, while exploring public access trails and the parks that are marked on the maps.
We made it almost around the island and were looking out at the narrows between protection island and Newcastle when we had some woman start yelling at us across the beach asking if we were lost, we said “no?, she then says “we all have cameras on the island, you know” and she said she had us on camera on someone’s deck, confused I asked for the footage because I knew I was definitely not on any deck, and she changed her tune saying she wasn’t accusing me of anything… then goes on to say they had a break in so she’s on edge… while I can sympathize, this doesn’t give her the right to be hostile to strangers and falsely accuse them of trespassing.
After having empty accusations thrown at us, we decided that we would not eat at the Dhingy Dock pub because we were clearly not welcome on the island, we got back on the ferry and had a great meal back in Nanaimo.
I would say you can leave this stop off your Nanaimo travel bingo card.
