点评:We visited Domaine Royal de Jarras for the vineyard tour earlier today, and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
We were greeted by Sandrine at the wine boutique to check in for our “petit train” tour. We were offered a supplementary printed pack of info in English in case our guide’s dual French-English commentary wasn’t enough for us… they needn’t have worried. Sandrine was a thoughtful, knowledgable guide who was as proficient in English as in French.
The train tour took about 90 minutes, taking in highlights from both outside amongst the vines, and the history of the production process inside. We were introduced to lots of aspects of the local flora and fauna, plus insights into how on earth they grow vines in such a salinated part of the world!
We loved seeing the 460 year old “parrot press” (one of only three still in existence), and the beautiful grand cave.
We finished off with a generous wine tasting, which allowed us to make an informed decision when purchasing a few bottles to take back to our hotel.
We felt the tour was a bit of a bargain - two adults, two children cost about 27 GBP. The train was great fun for the children, as was the opportunity to hand feed a pair of white Carmargue horses.
We only managed to book by telephone, the email contact on the website didn’t seem to work for us. It’s definitely worth the effort of picking up the phone.
Oh… and the wines are DELICIOUS.
