A peaceful garden away from the city
槟城植物园的点评
点评：Very pleasant botanic gardens, lots of greenery including large trees, in a valley surrounded on 3 sides by jungle. Quite large (would be possible to rush around in less than 1 hour). Spent about 2 hours there, lovely leisurely stroll. Unsurprisingly hot and humid but plenty of shade and breezes.
Not many people on a weekday mid morning. Some locals having their morning walks.
Map of gardens on signboards in the gardens are not very clear, though Google maps is a little clearer. Not a lot of signs. But difficult to get lost because the garden is in a valley and you can walk to the end of the valley and walk out again, following the wide smooth paths. Ask some of the local walkers if unsure of directions. Gentle up and down slopes. Benches to sit and rest. Beware of monkeys!
Plants generally had labels with scientific names.
Many of the enclosed areas that supposedly have specific plant collections were closed, and seemed to be closed for the long term. Nevertheless, much else to see and enjoy.
Restaurant near entrance. We bought a fresh coconut to drink there, very nice after our walk. No place to buy food/drinks inside gardens, so bring your own water to drink.
Grab drops off passengers at designated drop off point far away from the actual entrance, so need to walk a few hundred meters in before reaching gardens. At the end of our visit, few Grab drivers wanted to come all the way to pick us up, so we walked a few hundred meters nearer the main road before booking a Grab which still took a long time to come.
Overall a lovely peaceful place to spend learning about the plants of the area and away from the frenetic city.
