点评:There are many reviews of the wonders of the Sung Sot Caves and I concur with all of them. I am a senior in my 70's and I was concerned about the physical requirements but I could not find a good explanation so that is what this review is about. I am not super fit. I walk slowly and can do about 2 or 3 miles but my big issue is in my legs and climbing and inclines are hard. The "power" seems to run out. I was aware there were a lot of steps and did not know if I could make it. There are 700 steps in all and I will explain. These figures are accurate from the guides.
BEWARE: ONCE YOU START YOU ARE COMMITTED. IT IS ONE WAY AND THERE IS NO WAY BACK. SO YOU HAVE TO FINISH.
We arrived on 25 March 2025. The day was cloudy with no rain and in the 70's and reasonably cool. Our boat arrived at the dock and the first thing we noticed was the long line to go up the stairs. It took about 20 minutes to get to the staircase but apparently on really busy days (there are literally dozens of boats) it could take an hour or more I'm told. So the first thing is the need to be able to stand for long periods .. and then climb.
The first staircase to the entrance is 175 steps. There are handrails and 2 people can climb at the same time. The line went slowly so there was time to breath on the way up. The steps started out quite shallow but then got high. I estimate 9-10" high for the most part which adds to the difficulty. What you notice from the outside is that the exit is much higher than the entrance.
Once we entered the cave there is about a 1km walk from beginning to end on a groomed path with no stones but there were ups and downs along the way with inclines and steps but nothing too hard. There about 4 or 5 spectacular caves along the way that get progressively larger.
TIP: The cave is about 10 degrees cooler than the outside but is unbelievably humid. I sweat a lot. Take water and a head band or a towel if you think you need it. I was dripping wet.
At the end is where I got a surprise. There are another 275 steps up to reach the exit! These were mainly high as well and no real handrail. Just some ropes and a wooden stanchion every few feet. I climbed slowly but it is largely single file and I held people up but most seemed not to mind and were understanding. When you exit the view is amazing. Drinks can be purchased there and then there are 250 steps down to the dock.
I managed it and was pretty wiped at the end. It was tough but worth it.
I have attached pictures of the line; the stairs going up; the exit; the trail inside and a couple of the caves.
YMMV.
YMMV。
