Taman Negara National Park的点评
点评：Malaysia's largest national park is often promoted as the premier nature destination for tourists but the reality is very different.
Boardwalks are the main routes for tourists exploring the forest at Kuala Tahan & they are in very poor condition - a large tree have fallen onto the boardwalk at one point, causing it to collapse, but no repairs have been done. Several other points along the walkway have rotten foundations which sway when one walks over it - the authorities seem to be waiting for them to collapse. There are plenty of loose planks which can make progress hazardous. They creak & bang loudly as you walk along them, which scares away any wildlife that might be around.
The famous Canopy Walkway has been closed for a very long time & show no signs of re-opening. All aniimal hides are closed except for Tahan hide next to the Mutiara Resort chalets, where animal sightings are rare due to the proximity to noisy humans. The information display at the Park HQ consists of 3 boards which look to be 50 years old & are fading badly. The enormous fish tank next to Park HQ where mahseer were once displayed is now sadly empty.
The authorities should take a look at Mulu national park in Sarawak, which is one of the best-managed park I have visited in Malaysia. Their visitor information centre is world-class & engaging to visit for tourists - I have spent over half an hour looking at the displays, and their trails & boardwalks are in much better condition.
