点评:We used to go to BZ often when our children were young and waited six years to let BZP get on its feet with the new habitats for the animals.
We visited BZP for my son’s 18th birthday yesterday. 8th December.
When we drove into the levelled rubble car park we thought we had gone to the wrong place.
We were told a third of BZP was closed due to the storm and could come another day. Which was fair. But after paying the £81 entrance fee we were not expecting the state of the place or the loss of nearly all of the animals or the condition some of them are kept in.
The significantly reduced group of mere cats were housed in a drafty old green house which was entered through a small entrance of dead plants. This was near some netting structures boasting a number of different pigeons.
In the toilets by the play barn, the ceiling was held together with old gaffa tape.
We decided not to bring a picnic as had always got nice food before but ended up paying £70 for cold food which we ate in a freezing cold side room.
We were surprised that not even the insects had been moved over or the interesting display of rats and mice. Not even the simplest easiest animals from the extensive collection you had have been added.
You sent away the red pandas you had who have now had babies in their new homes and got more. Which makes no sense at all.
Even the butterfly house had been replaced with a butterfly maze. In 6 years you could not put up a polly tunnel for some butterflies?
Bristol zoo was a world class zoo dedicated to conservation, care and welfare of its animals in a rich, vibrant purpose built space. We were told it would be improved. I cannot tell you how disappointing it was to see what has become of our beloved zoo and cannot think why you have done this. You should have been honest and said you were simply closing the zoo down.
BZP is a play place with some animals, the majority of which is still builders fencing and areas in the process of being dug up that you can only access off the motor way.
I won’t continue other than to say I felt I had let my son down taking him there for his special 18th birthday.
I am so saddened and will not recommend or visit again.
