点评：The current Sanctuary was built “over and around the original church of Our Lady of the Olive Tree and completed in 1165, so there remain two churches, one inside the other, the first still serving as an underground choir and the second as an upper choir”.
The paint of Mary with the Baby , on the main altar of the lower church , is an icon painted on canvas fixed to a panel, in dark colors on a gold background, which represents the Madonna with a brown face, with the Child on her left arm, in an affectionate and maternal attitude. The style seems Greek, both because of the Greek custom of placing the Child on the left, and because in the early times in Liguria it was the Greeks who painted, on a gold background. The painting, according to legend, was found under an olive tree in 936.
Over the centuries, the Sanctuary, the oldest in the Chiavari area, was restored and the underground Chapel and the choir were enriched with precious marbles.
