点评：The Waag is an old building dating back to the seventeenth century, built in Renaissance style. In the Second World War it miraculously escaped from being bombed with the surrounding parts of the old town being nearly completely destroyed. In summer, in july the Waag forms the beautiful background of the Zomerfeesten, the completely free summer festival that is organised simultaneously with the world famous Four Days Marches.
The Waag and the Grote Markt are the heart of the city of Nijmegen and the many bars, cafes pubs, hotels and restaurant around the Grote Markt are the vibrant and cosy heart of the city. In Spring/Summer you must enjoy this vibrant buzzing place, the terraces completely occupied, looking out on the Grote Markt and The Waaggebouw. Tip: pay attention to the statue of Mariken van Nieumeghen right opposite The Waaggebouw. She is the main character in one of the most famous medieval plays and one of the symbols of the city of Nijmegen.
Walk through the arches and dwell around Sint Stevens church and admire the little Kannuniken-houses (nuns) that lie in the shadow of the church and that have been there for centuries or the magnificent Latin School.
