点评:One of our favorite activities on trips is exploring restored historic homes. The Reddick Mansion in Ottawa, Illinois, is one of the best. The restoration society has painstakingly transformed this former mansion-turned-library to its original splendor. The first docent shared interesting stories about the Reddick family. Our tour docent, who had used the library herself, provided excellent details about how the change was made. It was hard to imagine the immense effort required to bring the house back to life. A unique feature of this house is the lack of roped-off walkways, allowing visitors to experience being in the room. The original ceilings were a thing of beauty and talent. They have gone to the effort of replacing any modern glass panes with period-accurate glass. The small but determined association has worked diligently to acquire original furniture. Great stop!
