点评:This hike locale is beautiful.
First, it’s not associated with the state park so at least one rule is different: no dogs here. And for good reason - the rim trail is all cliffs and not safe for even leashed dogs in some areas. The other reason is wildlife. Both times we’ve hiked the gorge trail we’ve seen deer and other critters and this planing a preserve wants to keep the natural wildlife happy and safe here.
Second. You’ve got two beautiful, and very diverse experiences to have here with the two trails. The rim trial is a bit dryer and warmer. A different rock type and a whole different view of the area. Meanwhile the gorge trail is greener - even in winter it seems more wild. It’s like the rim is more Ohio landscape like and the gorge trail is straight out of a Zelda landscape or Miyazaki film. This place is absolutely beautiful and worth seeing.
If you bring young kids you’ll want to really watch them around the rim, but the gorge trail is pretty safe for them. It is also easier - as it’s a mostly flat in and out for a little under a mile. The rim trial is a bit longer and does require some stairs to get up to it and then back down. Once up there it’s not difficult, just rocky- no climbing over rocks required.
This is also a great hike just for couples too.
