San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site的点评
点评：Stephen Austin is known as the father of Texas. His father Moses Austin secured permission from the Spanish Government to form an Anglo colony in Spanish Texas. But Moses contracted pneumonia and died. Stephen took up his father's dream but then Mexico gained it's independence from Spain. Stephan Austin went to Mexico City and after a year of wrangling with the Mexican government he finally got permission to keep the land grant and start the colony. He arrived in Texas with 300 families who settled along the Brazos, San Bernard and Colorado Rivers. He was operating under the watchful eye of Felipe Neri the Baron de Bastrop who helped him pick a suitable site on the Brazos for the colony's first town San Felipe de Austin. This became the colonial capital. Reaching about 600 in population by 1835 it was the site of the Consultation of 1835 in which Texas decided that they would operate under the Mexican constitution of 1824 which Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana had suspended or they were going their own way. There is here today only a reconstructed town as the original San Felipe de Austin was burnt to the ground during the revolution by the Texans to keep it out of Mexican hands. But there were live impersonators all with stories to tell and buildings reconstructed using the methods of the times. A great trip if you want to understand Texas history
