As a professional local mountain guide and tour operator based in Moshi, Tanzania, I have spent more than 15 years guiding climbers on every official route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. During this time, I have successfully led thousands of climbers from around the world to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters / 19,341 feet), the highest point in Africa.
For me, Mount Kilimanjaro is much more than Africa's tallest mountain. It is a place of incredible natural beauty, personal achievement, cultural heritage, and life-changing experiences. Every climb is different, and every summit tells a unique story.
The mountain is protected within Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that preserves diverse ecosystems ranging from tropical rainforest to alpine desert and the spectacular Arctic summit glaciers.
Why Kilimanjaro is One of the World's Greatest Climbs
Unlike many of the world's highest mountains, Kilimanjaro requires no technical climbing skills. Most healthy people with determination, proper preparation, and enough time for acclimatization can successfully reach the summit.
During a single trek, climbers experience five distinct climate zones:
