点评:This was my second visit to Le Caves Bailly Lapinerre. My last visit, two years ago, was time limited and we only got to visit the main selling area but enjoyed the tastings of the crémant. I was impressed with the caverns where you could park cars in!
This time I pre-organized the tour of the caves before we arrived though they didn't need to take a booking. It is an interesting quarry and the tour explained about the making of modern crémant (same as champagne but that's what you can't call it in the Bourgogne). There are some interesting miner artworks in the quarry. You are able to have an English speaking audio device. We got the guided tour, a tasting of two crémants each with a souvenir champagne glass to keep which I managed to get home in airplane luggage. I bought 4 bottles of their quite reasonably priced crémant this time and enjoyed all of them celebrating achievements on our trip.
My husband doesn't drink alcohol but he was impressed by the caves. These were excavated originally as a quarry then used by mushroom growers then later used by crémant makers since 1972. This is a more modern winery than the champagne makers in Epernay I visited where we were in Gallo-Roman tunnels which I probably enjoyed more.
If you are travelling by boat note that the electricity and water services have ben re-established since our last visit.
