点评:We had little time to spend in the Tabernas area, so chose to see the set with the fewest people, Western Leone. For 12 euros we received a free drink in the saloon while listening to themes from the spaghetti westerns in the background. We enjoyed wandering around the buildings where you really feel the atmosphere of those old movies. Our overall impression was that it was probably worth the 12 euro, but it could use a good cleaning, light maintenance, and better management.
While we enjoyed this part of the experience, it was colored very negatively by what we saw next in the horse barn. Most of the stalls contained horses. Since I grew up on a ranch, I walked down the row of stalls to greet the horses. The horses behaved oddly--they seemed to evoke the same eeriness as the set. They seemed dazed, stood in one spot--not moving to greet me. Some had odd ticks--jerky motions in the face and neck. Then I looked into the stalls. The horses were standing in up to two feet or more of mucky horse manure with no clean place to stand, a situation that can cause hoof rot. It was clear that these horses were very neglected. I don't know if Spain has animal welfare such as we have in the United States, but someone needs to come out and check on the health of those horses.
