A nice theatre, good show
New Victoria Theatre的点评
点评：Went to New Victoria Theatre to see War Horse for mums 60th birthday.
Mum and dad, my brother and his gf were on the dress circle, meanwhile I was sat down in the stalls (on this floor for personal reasons).
Not the nicest theatre I’ve been to. a bit plain looking, and not overly comfortable (or spacious) seats.
It was a good view, thankfully the group in the row in front of me sat a child in the seat in front (after the child two seats away complained that she ‘wanted to sit next to mummy’) so I had a clear-ish view over his head.
The show was better than I was expecting, having never seen the film I didn’t know the storyline.
How they controlled the horse was clever with two people inside the horse to control the front and rear legs, then a third man outside to control the head and neck - this was made even more impressive when the actors could actually ride it like a real horse (the two guys inside must be strong, I imagine the frame alone is heavy!)
When the black stallion died I thought it was good how the trio controlling it stepped away from the horse, and stood there quietly for a moment before leaving, quite a powerful scene of it dying and no longer needing them to control it
I can’t say I was impressed by the tank, with the amazing effects of the horses, it seemed a bit feeble just having two side frames but no front or back so you could see the men carrying it
I think I’d try the film after seeing the show, it never appealed to me before as I’m not really into war movies.
