点评:We did the night safari extended (2 nights). It was only me and my partner on this trip, together with the guide for the national park and two local guides. We started with a tour of the local village before going into the national park. We originally planned to do trekking but unfortunately the park has not had funding to renovate one of the camps yet and therefore it's closed at the moment. The night safari however turned out to be a really unique experience. The way the local guides manage the boat through narrow upstream in shallow water, how they look for animals with a light while navigating the river in complete darkness was very impressing and exciting to be a part of. The trekking on day 2 was not too long but still a bit challenging so I think that people looking for trekking could still be satisfied by this tour. The food was great and any time we were sitting down they always made up a fire so we were never really cold even though we were in he middle of nature.
The only caveat is (what I've seen others write too) that it's a bit tricky to get there. We heard different things about the bus, but in the end it seems like they do go every day back and forth (but worth checking before). Our driver from Muang Hiam to the national park helped us book the bus back. There are some that don't appear on 12go.asia (for example Muang Hiam to/from Phonsavan). We took the bus all the way back to Luang Prabang which was said to be 7-10 hours but ended up 13 hours as it had rained the day before and the roads were muddy. As these roads are very bad it was definitely a challenge for us, and incredibly tiring day. But we would still have done this tour even with what we know about the roads, it was worth it.
Overall our guides were very friendly, taught ut a lot about both Lao culture and wildlife. This tour was the best thing we did in Laos.
