A park you can drive fully in a day
Marakele National Park的点评
点评：Camped at Bontle which in itself is quite nice. Minimal facilities but everything you need for 1 or 2 nights.
No staff aside from reception and they don’t provide anything other than the obligatory information and aren’t very forthcoming with anything else.
The scenery is stunning and you will barely see another car - I had 7 in a day, 2 of which were staff vehicles.
The 4x4 roads are only because a sedan wont make it (uneven sand bank), or the road is soggy after rain.
The park is split in 2 with (it seems because no explanation was given) general game in 1 section and mixed general and dangerous game in the other. All of the game is very skittish. Like others, I think most game is in the inaccessible parts of the park. I had the most fun watching the wildlife around camp - a rock monitor had a hole right near my tent!
Confident driving is required for the lookout - it’s worth it though! Up here you might also see the rare butterfly species found in the park.
For most people I wouldn’t recommend more than an overnight (1 full day is plenty) in the park unless you want to do booked activities like walks, bike rides or game drives.
