A Cool Natural Attraction but a Very Early Start

点评：Must admit - tend to agree with Sean A - ‘More of a bubbler than a gusher’ … there are over 100 of these ‘bubblers’ and just one ‘gusher’.
We took a tour with Alabalti Atacama in a minibus with 14 people and an excellent guide; this all helped the day run smoothly and maximised our time that morning.
Pick up was at a horrendous 4:30-5:10am slot; not impressed with the pick up time window as they must have approximate times for the hotels in San Pedro. You need to go early to see these Geysers at their best - dawn is when you can see the most steam. Most of the Geysers are small with the exception of one.
You arrive around 6:30am and it’s freezing. We were there in January (summer) and it was at least -4c and you get quite cold as there’s quite a bit of standing around. I wore 4 layers, my walking waterproof with hood (bobble hat is good), gloves & hiking boots (although you could get away with trainers). I was getting pretty cold towards the end of the hour - especially my hands! Bear in mind that you are at around 4,300m but everyone felt ok - just keep taking sips of water and eat some biscuits for the sugar.
After this we stopped at a scenic place for breakfast - no loos as this is in the middle of nowhere but a nice spread provided with the sun coming up and gradually thawing you out.
We felt the rest of the trip were filler stops but some reasonable scenery, bit of wildlife and a smallish town where all the buses stop with loos, BBQ & a church!
Back around 11:30am. Whole tour took place around 4,000m so not so good if you don’t cope well with high altitude.
Summary:
If you’ve seen Geysers elsewhere then give it a miss.
