点评:Unfortunately, a lot of tourists skip Medinet Habu due to lack of time. My tour operator was elated that I wanted to go there. This archeological site is located near Theban Hills on the west side of the Nile River. Medinet Habu contains the beautifully preserved Mortuary Temple of Rameses III. Medinet Habu was constructed around 12th century BCE and is the second largest ancient Temple in Egypt. Back in the 16th Century, a massive, fortified wall offered protection to the inhabitants from invaders. It was center of economic life in Thebes. Apparently, the remarkable architecture at this site mimics the Syrian Migdol fortresses. The walls pillars and pylons of this site are replete with exquisite and vivid carvings which provide a rich source of Egyptian history. There is a lot of things to do in Luxor. While the Karnak and Luxor Temples and Valley of the Kings would be rightfully given precedence by tourists, Medinet Habu with its grand architecture, opulent carvings and rich history, is also a must-see.
