点评：My favorite temple in all of Egypt, above Luxor, Karnak, Abu Simbel, and Hateshepsut! I think it's drastically underrated, and it's so odd to me that so many people skip it. It's easier to get to than Abu Simbel.
It's very well preserved, with only Edfu beating it. I spent longer here than I expected. I came with high expectations, and being there exceeded them. If you can find a way to get this on your agenda, do it. I can't talk this one up enough. I believe this is also the only temple in Egypt where you can visit the second floor--certainly the only one I went to.
It was also shocking to see what the French did with the zodiac ceiling piece upstairs; I knew it was a replica, but what they left the Egyptians with doesn't deserve to be called that. It's just a badly made black piece that doesn't look anything like the original. It was a truly shameful example of how the West took advantage of this land.
Because so few people go, it was very easy to get the space to myself and really appreciate everything. If people come in, just wait, or go somewhere else for a few minutes and come back. I really took my time and looked at everything I could.
There are also rumors that the Egyptian government may do a little restoration work on a part of the ceiling that has some soot on it, and I would gladly return to see that. This was truly an incredible and worthwhile experience. A definite highlight of my trip. Don't skip the other structures on the site!
