Great NP for treking and relaxing

点评：This park has good maps for sale! This was a big deal for me. Most Keny NP's do not have maps. I always assume it's because if they had maps then more people would forgo hiring guides. I digress....
My family and I really enjoyed this park. We were able to stay at the special campsite, which has a brook running through it (great for the kids to play in). Unlike other parks this one is walkable. We walked to the caves from the campsite and enjoyed watching the bats and checking out the crystals on in the caves. Surprisingly we were able to find the elusive, shy forest elephants one morning and really enjoyed watching them munch on leaves in the woods, just off the road. It's amazing how camouflaged they are just a few feet off the road/trail.
We were also able to watch the Abyssinian colobus monkeys, and spotted a striped jackal - two new species for us. The whole park is so very different from any others. We thoroughly enjoyed just sitting around camp and enjoying the birds and marveling at the flowers and trees.
The KWS staff were responsive and courteous. There was a large tree blocking the road to the campsite and the KWS were able to muster their forest management team with a chainsaw to clear it out of the way. Keep in mind this park is not the most visited so transactions at the gate may take longer than at some of the more popular parks.
There are guides available, but we did not seek the services of one. The roads were all very good and well maintained.
