点评:As of mid-June 2025 the road to the driveway is under construction, so we had to park and walk and extra 30 minutes or so (2 km) to get to the beach. It was absolutely worth it, as this is my favorite thing we did on the peninsula.
Once you actually get to the parking lot, there is a little trail heading down to the lagoon, through twisted lava structures. It's like entering into some fantasy realm. The lagoon is a deep teal color, and the pathway is lined with little carved posts. The lagoon is still and silent, a contrast to the raging ocean further up the beach.
The beach is littered with shiny black pebbles, and also the wreck of an old shipwreck, giving the whole place a bit of a solemn air. Once you get to the actual sea, the crashing of the waves is just mesmerizing. There are plenty of little grottoes and coves with beautiful rock formations and little tidal pools that are perfectly still and clear. It's just a magical place. We were there on a more overcast day and that just added to the ambience. Even my kids, who have at times been less than patient with some of the nature hikes, wanted to stay here for at least an hour - they enjoyed watching the waves, piling stones to make 'fortresses', skipping stones in the lagoon, and essentially playing 'chicken' with the surf. That said it's definitely a place to keep a close eye on your kids as the waves can be strong and you certainly would not want to end up in the ocean.
