Nicely Wooded But Beware of Narrow RV Site Entrances

点评：First time at Shawme-Crowell which is a combination of sites for tents and RVs. The campground itself is nicely wooded and there was plenty of space between sites with plenty of foliage/trees to provide a surprising amount of privacy.
We camped with our travel trailer. There are no hookups, but we were close enough to a spigot to enable us to fill our fresh water tank. The comfort stations are scattered throughout and we were not too far from Comfort Station #1 which looked to be fairly new. It was clean and the shower had nice space and good water pressure.
Definitely a bad year for tent caterpillars. There was black droppings on every surface. Thankfully we brought a pop-up awning so we were able to put that over the picnic table and eat outside. Just a reminder to always come prepared since you never know what might be falling on your head!
We stayed at Loop 1, Site C16 which was a dombo of hard ground and grassy area which was very nice. The site was a good size and very level.
My only complaint is that a number of the RV sites have a narrow entry into the site (due to trees on either side) which was the case with our site (Site C16). Backing up our trailer, in the dark, between the two trees at the entrance, plus a large rock, was quite tricky. It was VERY narrow clearing only about a foot on either side of the trailer. If we had a slightly wider or longer trailer (since there wasn't much clearance in the roadway either), we would have had issues.
We drove around and checked out other sites and some they labeled as "RV" sites were down narrow drives with multiple sites, but the "driveway" does not look very navigable if you are pulling a trailer. It also looks like in Loop 2 there are more sandy sites. So be aware of that!
Otherwise, a great place to stay on the Cape. Plenty of restaurants and stores in the area and also close to New Town Beach (although not open to the public in season) and Tree House Brewery where you can enjoy a fill while overlooking the water.
I would definitely return again having taken notes of the sites that would better accommodate my trailer.
