点评:This cylindrical brick two tone tower rises from the Post Office building until the structure changes to a polygon with large clock faces on four sides. There is an observation room with windows on the top.
The tower houses the Launceston Centenary Clock and Chimes that commemorates the centenary of Launceston in 1906. Unfortunately funding for the project needed to raised and it was not until 1910 that the extensions to the existing tower were complete and the clocks and chimes installed and ownership officially handed over to the city of Launceston.
The tower has clocks on all four sides and is clearly visible from many parts of the city.
Apparently the chimes are never turned off, the City Council voting in 2011 against turning them off between 11-00pm and 6-00am. Obviously none of the councillors live nearby.
