点评:Our last evening of a short break in Sidmouth - we had booked two seats to see "9 to 5" performed by an amateur group, Sidmouth Musical Theatre. The theatre has moved to e-tickets, so we arrived with phone in hand ready to show our tickets, and found a queue at the entrance doors. In fact there were two queues - one to buy raffle tickets, one to buy programmes, but no check at all as to whether we had tickets(!)
A pleasant welcome was extended to all customers by the volunteers in the front of house area. Seats were comfortable, and gave sufficient leg room (even for my 6ft 2ins)
We were delighted to see that the theatre was almost full on a Wednesday evening.
The show was not an easy one to present, made more difficult by the director having opted for regular and often irrelevant scene shifting, sometimes done while one of the leads was singing at the front of the stage. That and minor issues with the sound (making it difficult to hear the lead voice on occasions) did not detract from an enjoyable evening.
Locals and visitors alike should appreciate the work that goes into keeping this rarity of a theatre going, and visit as frequently as possible, please.
