点评:I went on a 4-day, 3-night guided kayak trip in December 2024 with expert Canadian guides Adam and Danika. Fluid's owner, Michael McKenzie, was very responsive to my email questions before the trip.
We took a two-hour boat ride to Coiba Island, where we had lunch under a covered pavilion at the ranger station and picked up our kayaks. The launch took our gear further to our campsite. The boat crew off-loaded our camping equipment, food, and personal gear, while we geared up and paddled the 2.75 miles (4.4 km) "scenic route" to the campsite to set up our tents. Later in the day, we took a short 1-mile (1.75 km) paddle to explore the shoreline, spotting a sea turtle, waterfalls, and Howler monkeys.
The next day, we did a longer 9.5-mile (15 km) paddle around the island's north side, stopping along the way to explore a 70-acre (30 ha) mangrove wetland, where we saw a variety of tropical birds and a juvenile crocodile. We had a lunch stopover on a protected beach, and on the way back, we glimpsed Eagle rays and another sea turtle. We also snorkeled a reef within swimming distance of our campsite before returning to camp for hors d'oeuvres and dinner.
Each morning at 6:15 am sharp, I was awakened by a curious troop of endemic White-Faced Capuchins peeking through the jungle about 25 feet (8 meters) away. This unique wake-up call marked the start of our days, which were filled with more kayak exploration and snorkeling at various reefs. Each night I fell asleep to waves lapping not far from my tent.
The meals Adam and Danika prepared were delicious and wholesome, with plenty to eat, even for the 17-year-old high school athlete on the trip with his family. My tent seemed new, and the sleeping pad was comfortable. The father of the 4-person family brought a guitar, and each night he and his son played familiar tunes we sang along to. Adam turned out to be a decent singer and guitar player himself.
This was my second multi-day sea kayak trip, the first being a cold-water expedition through the US San Juan Islands, where we carried our gear and moved campsites each day. Compared to my US trip, Fluid Adventure's trips are more economical. Fluid's kayaks are well-used but seaworthy.
I would paddle with Fluid Adventures again.
