点评:I approached the park on foot during a circular walk from my hotel (Movenpick) via the Nariman Narimanov monument, Chemberekend Park (which is lovely), the Flame Towers and the funicular. Then to the Carpet Museum, Esplanade and old city back to the hotel, a total of 14km.
Highland Park is very well maintained which can be expected as it contains a national war memorial commemorating the lives lost in post soviet conflicts. There is also a belvedere overlooking the city and Caspian Sea which attracts many visitors. The cafe/ restaurant would be a nice place to chill.
On a beautiful sunny Sunday the views were superb as it was windy and there was no air pollution. I happened to catch the call to prayer around midday which added to the atmosphere.
The funicular closes at lunchtime (and on Mondays for maintenance or “prophylaxis” as the notice on the door put it!). I was happy to wait until it reopened but not so enthusiastic about people who queue jumped just before the attendants opened the doors. At 1manat per journey it was quick but fun and brought me opposite the Carpet Museum and the quirky Little Venice.
