Wonderful hike if you're prepared

点评：Not being too sure how much hiking our youngest could take and how the weather might turn on us, we made it to the top of Mt. Lafayette a bit differently: we basically went up and down the Old Bridle Path, and stayed at the Greenleaf hut overnight (as it was part of the fun). Next time, we're definitely going up via the Falling Waters and Franconia Ridge Trails, and going down the Old Bridle Path.
Doing it our way, we made it from the trailhead to the hut in about 3 hours. There, we left most of our stuff then went to the summit in about 1.5 hours. It took us 50 min to make it back to the hut, and the next day (after waiting 1-2 hours for the rain to subside) we returned to the trailhead in under 2.5 hours. As always, it was beautiful seeing trees get shorter as we went up, with leaves being replaced with needles, and then only seeing rocks. Speaking of rocks, there is one section on the Old Bridle Path where the rocks are shiny smooth; be careful there!
Notes:
1) There's an overflow parking lot (exit 34C) with shuttles running back and forth. It was $5/person. Bring cash.
2) At the summit, gusts reached speeds of 70 mph when we were there. Wear layers! One of the photos shows the weather report posted inside the Greenleaf Hut.
3) Be very careful if you decide to go *down* from Little Haystack via the Falling Waters Trail. One of the staff highlighted that there's a section (in pink on the photo) where more people get injured than in *all* of NH put together. You'll be safer going up that section.
4) Wear proper hiking boots, not sneakers.
