点评:I had wanted to check out the new North Vancouver museum ever since I learned that it’s new location had been shifted to Esplanade down by Lonsdale Quay/shipyards. My friend and I jumped in the sea-bus and headed to the museum one Sunday afternoon in June.
I was immediately impressed with the large authentic restored electric street tram in the front of the building and by the really well stocked gift shop scattered around it. The staff here were fantastic and very kind. We were given a tour of the exhibit gallery by Carson who really did a great job highlighting some interesting history that i wasn’t aware of. This included a very rare authentic hair blanket made from the since extinct First Nations long haired dogs. Very unique and quite beautiful. Also included were a small room for temporary exhibits (this one was on the Original shipyards), a small display of forest trees by some local guide volunteers and the opportunity to do a walking tour of the real nearby shipyards. While the exhibits are nice and the museum brand new, it needs to offer more than just the one exhibit gallery. But it’s a treat start and I wish them the best. Do check out their gift shop…good stuff including First Nations created items.
