点评：Went out yesterday for a solo session with Mick, plumping for a canoe each - what an experience! We covered basic paddle techniques to start with, adding more advanced ones in as we went along. We stopped off at each island to get out and have a wander around. It was fascinating to learn about all the different trees, identifying ones that are dead or infected, noticing how they have been damaged by storms over the years and spotting tree graffiti that goes back as far as the early 1900s, not to mention the vast array of mushrooms. I particularly appreciated touching on the history of the area, learning about the eccentric sounding characters that once lived there and the tension between certain lake dwellers and the poets of the time. It was a bit cloudy when we went out but we were blessed with a burst of sunshine just as we were making our way back to the boathouse, and the views were breathtaking. We also spotted a couple of military jets as they swooped over us in the middle of the lake and dived into the mountains - terrifying and impressive all at once. Thanks to Mick and Pete for putting on this session. It was the absolute highlight of my solo trip to the lakes. I highly recommend!
