We were genuinely looking forward to visiting the Falkirk Wheel, often described as a “must-do” in Scotland—but sadly, it didn’t live up to the hype.
The site itself felt tired and neglected. Half of the play park was either closed or broken, and the interactive water features were in a similar state of disrepair. The mini golf was the one activity we enjoyed, but at £5 per person, it felt steep for what was offered.
One of the most frustrating aspects was the layout: we had to walk a long way just to pay for anything, which was especially inconvenient for families or those with mobility issues.
The cafeteria food was decent, but again, overpriced. A tasteless sandwich shouldn’t cost what it did. The boat ride—the main attraction—was a letdown. The glass was filthy and covered in moss, making it impossible to see out. The seating was cramped, and there was no staff guidance, so it was a chaotic free-for-all. Our group ended up scattered, with children and adults constantly walking up and down a narrow corridor throughout the ride.
Overall, the experience felt poorly maintained and overpriced. If you're planning a trip, I’d recommend saving your time and money for something more worthwhile.
