点评:This seemed like a rather underrated trip on Kos, not heavily promoted (possibly because its free) but it is an incredible feat of human ingenuity and engineering. The Knights of the Order of St John rebuilt this towering monument and there are reminders of them everywhere.
Easy to find parking bay. Take water and a hat. May be better early as it was getting “busy” when we went. Mainly, selfishly, interferes with the photos!
The wee fella at the bottom of the climb encourages a contribution but it’s voluntary. It’s a great souvenir photo op
Well made stone path and stairs which, I’m sure could get slippy if wet. Ruins appear quickly in the ascent - don’t miss the village square (modern toilets available) on the way up to the main castle.
The climb gets a little bit harder after this but is still well laid out & not too challenging. In total ITS 4.1km long (bit of meandering) and about 185m of climbing according to Strava
The views from the top are stunning and worth the effort. So is the Taverna Oria, cash only! The freshly made lemonade was fabulous.
So glad we did this - its a great short trip but really worth it
