点评:Kalandos area features a pleasant sandy bay in front of what should have been wetlands, created by a small creek ( but on September was a dry land), and a small port that only a couple of fishing boats and the occasional boat trip vessel used during last couple of decades or so. On the two different sides of the bay there are two small taverns, one offering some rooms to let too. It is a remote part of the island visited mostly by locals till a few years ago. The beach is and depth is sandy and the area is usually protected by most winds.
There are tiny roads and trails along the road from Filoti that span out to all kind of animal corrals and a couple of tiny settlements, so while usually the road is nearly deserted, driving needs extra caution because suddenly locals or animals might appear in front of you out of nowhere. It was fun to see road signs announcing (in Greek) all kind of local locations when the road its self is not the best, while sometimes Naxos elsewhere lacks of road signs to real villages! Something to do with the local major/politics maybe?
Chimaros Tower on the way to Kalandos would have been a nice attraction, but I remember it on maintenance 15 years ago and sadly it's still under scaffolding/on maintenance now...
There are some plans to expand the port of Kalandos and some bulldozers were on work when I visited earlier on September. Rumor has it that back on the '60s, preliminary works had become to open a car road connecting Ayiassos to Kalandos, but then nothing happened -and local sepherds know and follow the route on foot.
But for the time been for your averrage visitor this a very remote place, only accesible by the road from Filoti. So only a minority of people who like very quiet holidays away from the "civilisation" would chose it as a base.
While it's a pleasant bay, I don't think it would be a priority for most visitors of the island right now, unless they have many days on their disposal and are interested to explore around and see a secluded place before becoming a "tourism destination". In a few years time I am sure situation will be different for better or worse...
