点评:This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site; designated in 2018 it is an incredible place. It was the first cacti forest we’ve ever visited; its spread over 490,000 hectares.
Home to one of the highest concentrations (at least 45 different species) of columnar cacti in the world this is a visually stunning place. Here you can see a range of cacti at every stage of development from new growth to very old and even skeletal. In addition to columnar cacti we saw barrel cacti, yucca, cucharilla, agave, dragons blood and others.
Our guide (our guide spoke in English) has been a custodian of this place for much of his life. His description of the site, types of cacti, their life and relationship with birds, bats and bugs was fantasic. His passion for the site was infectious.
Although visitors are directed around the site by well set out paths the site requires vistors to have a level of agility as they are uneven and have some steepish incline / declines. There is also a tall viewing tower that’s well worth the climb to get a Birds Eye view over the surrounding area.
