The Farm Shop Is NOT A Farm Shop

点评：Since reading about the opening of a farm shop at Grimsthorpe, I have been meaning to visit. Today I finally made the trip out there and was so disappointed with what I found. The so-called farm shop is not a farm shop at all - it's just an over-priced gift shop. There is no produce in the way of fresh fruit or veg and they don't even sell milk or cream. In fact, even the meat selection was small and unremarkable. I was incredibly disappointed to make a 40 minute round trip just to end up buying some sweets and leaving after 5 mins. It was full of pre-packaged foods marketed as Grimsthorpe products, but actually bought in from elsewhere. As an example, I bought some peanut brittle with a Grimsthorpe castle sticker on it, only to read on the back that it came from a company called Bramble Foods Ltd. It turns out that Bramble Foods Ltd is a company, based in Leicestershire, that allows companies to buy their products and stick their own branding on it. The company is not even in Lincolnshire, let alone a part of the Grimsthorpe locale! As we had been to the property many times before, we didn't revisit the actual house or gardens again, because my visit was purely for the farm shop. Such a waste of time - it was just full of overpriced sweets and endless jars of jars and chutneys etc. If I could give this 1 star I would, but I have given it 3 because the gardens are a lovely place to visit and I don't want to put people off a visit there. But I absolutely do want to warn anyone thinking of going for the so-called farm shop not to bother - this is NOT A FARM SHOP!
