Rutherglen Wine Experience and Visitor Information Centre的点评
点评：I was in the area for business early in April and initially stopped because I required a bathroom break. There is a really good car park area next to the centre and then you walk towards a gorgeous red brick building.
The building was erected in 1862 as a drapery and general store. The Aitken & Fullerton sign displayed on the wall comes from the original grocery delivery cart and the original building finished where the information counter now stands.
Archibald Gordon Aitken was born in 1863 in Scotland. In 1885 he arrived in Australia, aged 22 on the ship Inveruglas. Six years later in 1891, along with business partner, WR Commins, he purchased the general store at Rutherglen. Together Aitken and Commins built on the business, as well as the building, adding the side wings in 1911. In 1926, Commins retired from the store and AG Aitken’s son-in-law, Percy Fullerton joined the business and it became Aitken and Fullerton.
But onwards, it's not just a stunning building... they offer local products and giftware, the centre offers bike hire including two tandem bikes, there is a wall of historical information about local wineries, there is some historical information about the gold battery, there are also information brochures and helpful staff.
