点评：We stayed with the Penan for a remarkable five nights, and our experience was even more organic and eye-opening than we ever could have expected.
The team at Adventure Alternative Borneo worked with us to create a custom trip into the deep jungle of Sarawak to stay with the local people living in Long Kerong. We felt in good hands throughout our journey and the weeks preceding our arrival.
It's a rugged journey ― including a twin-propeller plane, a 4x4, and a local canoe ― to arrive at Long Kerong. Still, the travel is far worth it to experience some warm welcomes, unique local life, and unspoiled natural beauty.
Throughout our stay, we felt welcome and well-hosted by our guide and the local families. They cooked incredible meals ― breakfasts, lunches, and dinners — with ingredients that can only be found in Sarawak, told us histories and stories, and took us through their villages and nearby areas to meet their friends, families, and neighbors. It wasn't all easy ― we bathed in the river while the children played nearby, slathered ourselves in insect repellant (to no effect), and lived in the oppressive heat of the jungle. But that's life in Sarawak ― and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
George and Mutang, locals from Long Kerong, helped guide us through jungle hikes to see what was, in my opinion, the rawest natural landscape I've ever witnessed. It was remarkably difficult jungle trekking, with thick vegetation and plentiful insects, but again, I've seen nothing like it, and the stories we brought back will last us forever.
I'd go back in a heartbeat. If you go, open your heart to the experience and embrace it without hesitation.
