点评:Much of the Karlsruhe city centre, including the palace, was reduced to rubble by Allied bombing during World War II but it was quickly rebuilt after the war. The palace presumably looks like it did before the war. However, it is basically a shell which is now used a a museum: there is nothing of the palace inside. The floors and rooms are not aligned with the past.
We were a bit apprehensive about this arrangement. Was it worth paying to see a modern museum inside the shell of a magnificent palace? I have not seen anything like this elsewhere.
It was good to see the exterior and to see the amazing city plan radiating from the palace at the centre. The State symbols on Baden inside were interesting but the archaeological museum was not very impressive. So on balance, we would probably have spent our time better outside the palace than inside.
